Patriot Ken Swords joined MOPH in 2000 and is a Life member of Chapter 1980 in Florida. He served as the Order’s first appointed National Deputy Sergeant-.At-Arms as well as a past elected Sergeant-At-Arms for the Department of Georgia. Patriot Swords currently is the National Sergeant-At-Arms and also an appointed member of the National Scholarship Committee.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, joined the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1963, and went to Parris Island for his recruit training. He served with the First Marine Division in the Republic of Vietnam in 1966 and 1967, attached to the First Battalion Fifth Marine Regiment as a squad leader and acting platoon leader. Patriot Swords was wounded in action on November 18, 1966 and awarded the Purple Heart Medal in December 1966. He was honorably discharged on December 30, 1969, but later retired from the Marine Corps in 2000 as a result of his combat medical disability.
He is Life member of the VFW, earning the distinction of an All American Post Commander, Life member of the DAV, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Marine Corps League.
